Part 2: State Secrecy and Child Deaths in the U.S.

Part Two of remarks given at a Capitol Hill briefing for the release of a report called: “State Secrecy and Child Deaths in the U.S.” The report found that information about child abuse deaths and near-deaths that could help prevent future tragedies remains veiled behind many states’ restrictive disclosure laws, highlighting the urgent need for systemic reform.

In this clip, Amy Harfeld, National Policy Director & Senior Staff Attorney for the Children’s Advocacy Institute (CAI) at the University of San Diego School of Law, a national child welfare advocacy organization, summarizes the major findings and recommendations. The report was released on Capitol Hill in Washington DC on April 17, 2012 by CAI and First Star, a national organization working to improve the lives of America’s abused and neglected children.
