Female Childhood Abuse Survivors More Prone to Food Addiction Later in Adulthood

Women who experienced childhood abuse, including severe physical or sexual, are at a higher risk of developing a food addiction in adulthood compared to women who did not experience any abuse, according to a new study released Wednesday.

Grassley, Landrieu Introduce the Foster Youth Stamp Act

WASHINGTON - Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, co-chairs of the Senate Caucus on Foster Youth, have introduced the Foster Youth Stamp Act of 2013. This bipartisan legislation will provide for the issuance and sale of a semi-postal stamp by the United States Postal Service to support effective programs targeted at improving permanency outcomes for youth in foster care.

Former foster child, and current medical school Dean, Dr. Claire Pomeroy

Dr. Claire Pomeroy, is the Dean, School of Medicine at the University of California, Davis, and a one-time foster child.

She put up this wonderful article on HuffingtonPost.com, telling of her remarkable success in the face of the daunting odds many foster children face.

To quote one section:

"The greatness of a society is defined by how it treats its most vulnerable members. By this measure, the U.S. is failing and the cost comes in wasted talent and unfulfilled potential among foster youth. Each of us must care enough to save children one at a time and change the systems to ensure that all children are saved."

Reporting Law Does Not Trump Attorney-Client Privilege

The Child Abuse Neglect and Reporting Act does not obligate a therapist working for a juvenile defense attorney to disclose communications by the child, even if they contain reveal child abuse or contain threats of violence, the Court of Appeal for this district ruled yesterday.

Judge give state 30 days to explain why it withheld child abuse information

FRANKFORT — A Franklin Circuit Court judge has given the state 30 days to tell the state's two largest newspapers why it redacted and took out information from more than 140 case files of children who have been killed or nearly killed from abuse or neglect.

Traumatized mums avoid emotional talks with kids

A new study from the University of Notre Dame has found that mothers who have experienced childhood abuse, neglect or other traumatic experiences show an unwillingness to talk with their children about the child's emotional experiences.
