RTI International Report: Youth in Foster Care Less Likely Than Other Disadvantaged Youth to Complet

California youth who have spent time in foster care are less likely than their peers with other disadvantages to complete high school, enroll in college, and persist to a second year of college, according to a Stuart Foundation report written by researchers at RTI International, the Center for Social Services Research, and the Institute for Evidence-Based Change.

Changes in Brain Structure Found After Childhood Abuse

Different forms of childhood abuse increase the risk for mental illness as well as sexual dysfunction in adulthood, but little has been known about how that happens. An international team of researchers, including the Miller School's Charles B. Nemeroff, M.D., Ph.D., Leonard M. Miller Professor and Chair of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, has discovered a neural basis for this association.

The Fairs had a simple philosophy: as soon as a child entered their home, he or she became family. After countless family dinners, long conversations and moments of shared laughter, Manning started to believe them. However, a small voice still nagged in his mind. He worried that at 21, the age of independence, the Fairs would let him go and he would be alone.
