FAILED TO DEATH Colorado human services offers 23 recommendations for child welfare

Colorado child protection workers made significant efforts in 2012 to identify more cases of child abuse and neglect, but routine lapses in communication and failures to accurately complete risk and safety assessments continue to affect how county departments handle maltreatment cases, according to a report released this week.

Watchdog: Nearly 100 inaccuracies in child fatality review

A state report reviewing the death of a 2-year-old whose mummified body was found under a Sterling mobile home is riddled with almost 100 inaccuracies and missing details about the decisions that child protection workers made before his death, according to an investigation released Thursday.

The Kids Are (Not) All Right

The United States has done it again — and not in a good way.
According to a Unicef report issued last week — “Child Well-Being in Rich Countries” — the United States once again ranked among the worst wealthy countries for children, coming in 26th place of 29 countries included. Only Lithuania, Latvia and Romania placed lower, and those were among the poorest countries assessed in the study.

Panel has 37 recommendations on Okla. child deaths

April 4, 20113 OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A failure among Oklahoma's judiciary, police and social services agencies to communicate in a timely manner about children in the state's care has had "serious consequences" including injuries and deaths, according to a panel reviewing child abuse and neglect cases from the Department of Human Services' files.
